10-27-2002: 142 with it's lead drive axle blocked
up awaits repair on the turntable lead storage track.
10-28-2002: 142's front drive axle is removed
using the Little Ferry turntable pit and a crane.
NYS&W 2012 slowly pushed the 142 over the
edge of the turntable pit and the crane positioned the cradle under the
front drive axle.
The axle was expected to drop easily but 142
had other ideas!
The axle somehow became wedged in place and workers
had to resort to more convincing measures.
Success! The axle and bearings finally have come
loose and are lowered into the pit.
The 2012 slowly pulls the 142 back onto the tracks.
The crane lifts the wheels..
And after Nick moves his truck, the wheels will
be placed here on their cradle until the new bearings arrive.
